Two people have died in a serious head-on collision which occurred on Dr Beyers Naude Drive in the early hours of this morning.
The cause of the collision is still unclear, but it was evident that it was severe. The collision involved a Toyota Hi-Lux bakkie which had one male driver and a Kia delivery bakkie with three occupants, one male driver and two female passengers.
When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they were astonished at the amount of damage sustained to both vehicles. The driver of the Kia delivery bakkie , believed to be aged in his 20’s,had sustained severe injuries in the collision and was declared dead at the scene.
One of the female passengers, aged 18, was not breathing and had no pulse. Paramedics immediately started with resuscitation efforts, but to no avail as the female was later declared dead at the scene.
The second female passenger, also aged 18, had sustained a severe head injury as well as a fracture to her left leg. Paramedics had to perform Advanced Life Support intervention to save the girls life. She was then stabilised at the scene before being transported to a nearby medical facility.
The driver of the Toyota bakkie had sustained minor injuries only and was treated at the scene before being transported to hospital. Local law enforcement authorities were at the scene and will be investigating the incident further.
